Many universities in Italy fit to the framework of the Bologna process since its adoption in 1999, which is called the 3+2 system. Universities in Italy can be divided into four groups. State-funded public universities, Universities funded by other public authority, Private universities officially recognized by the Ministry of Education and Superior graduate schools, which focus only on postgraduate education. They are made up of colleges that are dedicated to a specific subject matter. However, there is just a unique five-year master’s degree in Arts and for some programs such as Law, Arts, and Music. Medical schools are part of some universities and they only offer six-year courses. The Superior Graduate School offers recognized national and international titles, including the Diploma equivalent to a Doctorate i.e. Research Doctorate or Ph.D. and, are recognized by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (Italy), as fully autonomous.
